Eligibility for the Lowell Latin Lyceum

The following groups of students are eligible to apply for admission to the Lyceum:

  • Students who are in the eighth grade and are Lowell residents;
  • Students within Lowell Public Schools in the eighth grade, whether or not they are Lowell residents;
  • Non-Lowell High School ninth-grade students who are Lowell residents, but were not living in Lowell during the 8th grade, so that they could not apply for admission in the eighth grade (these students would enter the Lyceum in the tenth grade);
  • Lowell High School ninth-grade students who were not in Lowell Public Schools and were not residents of Lowell during their eighth-grade year (these students would enter the Lyceum in the tenth grade).

Testing Information

Testing for Students will take place in December. Anyone who is applying needs to take the HSPT. LPS students will be testing at their middle schools. Anyone not in LPS or who missed the test at their middle school can complete the test on Tuesday, December 16th from 4:30 -7:30 pm. Student should arrive before 4:30 and check in at the front desk of the main high campus.

    There is one submission cycle. We do not have a set number of openings. Please note that being accepted into the program does not mean that you are required to join the program.

    To be considered for admission, you must submit the following items through the forms on the website or by email. Scanned documents need to be emailed to theywosz@lowell.k12.ma.us 

    The application form with all written answers and the essay.

    1. Test (HSPT) must be taken during the December 2025 dates. Your Middle School will have date that it is taking place on site. This schedule will be finalized shortly.

    2. Application form must be submitted by January 5, 2026 (Monday)

    3. Recommendations must be received by January 5, 2026 (Monday)

    4. Candidates will receive a decision by Feb. 13, 2026.

      a) If you wish to have an interview with a member of the admissions committee, please contact us at the e-mails listed below.

    5. A copy of your 7th-grade transcript (grades) AND first quarter or first trimester grades from the 8th grade). A photocopy of a transcript or report card is acceptable.

    6. Two (2) completed teacher recommendation forms from the applicant’s current Math or Science, and English or Social Studies teachers. You may also submit — as an optional third recommendation — a recommendation from a youth activities supervisor, such as a sports coach, music teacher, youth group director, or religious leader. The recommendation form can be accessed from the LHS website or requested from Thomas Heywosz, Academic Lead Teacher for the Lyceum at theywosz@lowell.k12.ma.us or 978-656-1564.

    7. If you are not currently a Lowell Public Schools student, please include any standardized academic test results that you may have taken in the past two years. If you have not taken any such tests, please let Mr. Heywosz know separately.
