The Social Studies Department offers a four-year course of study in history and the social sciences. The content, reading materials, instruction, and assessment are designed to promote higher-level thinking and communication skills. Each student must pass ten (10) credits in U. S. History to graduate. See the Course Descriptions for courses that fulfill the graduation requirements. The U.S. History courses prepare students for success on the upcoming History MCAS. Social Studies courses are linked with several academies; their designations are as follows: AC designates Communication Academy. LL designates Lowell Latin Lyceum. AF designates Fine Arts Academy and CE designates The Public Service and Civic Engagement Academy.
