DECA - An Association of Marketing Students
Welcome to Lowell High School > Students > Activities > DECA - An Association of Marketing Students

Students with an interest in marketing, management, and entrepreneurship are wanted to enhance their co-curricular education. DECA students have the opportunity to compete at the district, state and national level based on the area of their interest. FUN is the name of the game for fundraising for travel & competitions. Creativity & hard work can earn students' trips to Orlando or Anaheim as well as other locations across the country! Students must be enrolled in a specific course of study through the Business Management & Finance Academy.
Members of the Lowell High School DECA-An International Association of Marketing Students chapter recently participated in the District 5 Competition at the Radisson Inn & Conference Center in Chelmsford. Over 300 students from Andover, Billerica, Chelmsford, Dracut, Greater Lowell Technical, Lowell, Methuen, Nashoba Regional, Nashoba Valley Technical and Tewksbury High Schools competed in day-long events in the categories of marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.  DECA members competing for Lowell included: Maxwell Regan & Thiago Silva (Second Place) competing in Sports & Entertainment Team Decision Making; Neisha Gonzalez (Fifth Place), Kinh Ouk (Seventh Place) & Chanboramey Phorn (Sixth Place) in Accounting Applications; Nhat Tran (Sixth Place) in Business Services Marketing; Arafat Mukiibi in Food Marketing Services; Kris Xiong (Third Place) in Hotel & Lodging Management; Quincy Ambe in Restaurant & Food Service Management; and Cormac Hondros-McCarthy (Third Place) in Sports & Entertainment Marketing individual event. Of the ten students participating for Lowell, eight students qualified for the State Leadership Development Conference in March and will travel with Advisors Diane Jean and Jacqui Taylor to the Marriot Copley, Boston where they will continue their DECA journey to try to advance to Louisville and the International Career Development Conference—Only the Best Will Gather.
All students in LHS DECA are members of the Business Management & Finance Academy at LHS and pursue study at both the college or honors academic levels. The Business Management & Finance Academy was established for students interested in majoring in Business Administration in college, or entering the workforce in the areas of management, finance, accounting, or marketing. By enrolling in the Business Management & Finance Academy, students are eligible to join Business Professionals of America (BPA) and/or DECA. These co-curricular student organizations provide students with the opportunity for educational and leadership development, personal and professional growth, and career related competencies. More importantly, the Business Department has established a partnership with Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. This partnership allows students in the Business Management & Finance Academy to work in the Lowell High School branch of the Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. In this branch, students learn the day-to-day operations of the banking industry while earning high school credit and real world experiences by while serving the entire school community. Academy students prepare for the Credit Union course by enrolling in the Money & Banking course their junior year.
