Latin Lyceum Mission Statement
The Latin Lyceum is a selective admissions exam school within Lowell High School that engages academically promising students in a challenging college preparatory curriculum intended to broaden and deepen their knowledge, skills, understandings, and civic commitment.
The Lyceum emphasizes:
A classical education, providing an interdisciplinary foundation and context for current learning;
- A community of learners, with close, supportive connections among teachers, students and staff;
- Inquiry-based instruction which promotes careful analysis, creativity, independent problem-solving (or thought), and informed judgment;
- Aesthetic appreciation; and
- The development of individual confidence and high aspirations.

- Interdisciplinary connections among learning experiences and a strong and supportive learning environment are facilitated through faculty collaboration.
Students spend extended time with core Lyceum faculty through participation in English and Mathematics courses taught by common instructors.
- Community members, administrators and the Lyceum's parent group take active roles in the Latin Lyceum's curriculum, activities, assessment, and ongoing development.
Inquiry-based instruction which promotes careful analysis, creativity, independent problem-solving (or thought), and informed judgment;
- *There is an emphasis on engagement with learning material such that students are immersed in the upper-level thinking process of synthesis, critical analysis, and evaluation. Typical assignments ask students to engage in research, reflection, argument, problem generation and thoughtful problem-solving.

- Lyceum teachers engage in ongoing professional development to promote a continuing emphasis on high quality, intellectually stimulating teaching practice.
Aesthetic appreciation; and
- Dimension of art, music, literature, and language are integrated within English, History and Seminar Lyceum core courses, as well as within Lowell High School's Advanced Placement European History Course.
- Latin Language courses emphasize aesthetic elements of the relevant language, history, and culture.
