Spring Junior Year

February - March

  • self-assessment to determine college criteria; discuss plans with parents.

  • Review College guides and make a primary list of colleges (about 25).
  • Attend college fair and meet with high school counselor.
  • March and May SAT's
  • Consider courses required for college study, and select rigorous program for senior year.

June

  • Choose colleges to visit and request information: viewbook, application, financial aid brochure. 
  • June SAT's
  • June Achievements
  • Applications usually not available before June.

Summer Junior Year

July - August

  • Review college viewbooks and catalogues.
  • Visit colleges (if possible), participate in group information sessions, interviews, and tours.  Ask questions and note observations.
  • List serious college options.

 

  • Read, read, read! Find a variety of resources to improve your vocabulary.
  • Review any test booklets to spot and improve weaknesses.

 

  • Receive applications.
  • One or two initial campus interviews. (Schedule in advance.)
  • Get a job

Late Summer

  • Plan itinerary of fall visits to colleges and schedule interviews.  Find out about bus trips set up by colleges.

Fall Senior Year

September - November

  • Local college receptions for applicants.
  • Attend college nights and school visits by college representatives.
  • Discuss plans with counselor.
  • Thorough college visits.
  • October SAT (some states).
  • November SAT and Achievements.
  • Review transcript with counselor, and discuss selectivity of college choices.
  • Campus interviews.
  • Complete application requests. 

By Thanksgiving

  • Final list of college applications (6-8)
  • Final college visits.
  • Plan overnight stays with top choices, if possible.

  • Begin essays.
  • Deadlines for early action and early decision applications.
  • Give school forms to counselor, and recommendation forms to teachers and peers.

Winter Senior Year

December - January

  • Local college receptions for applicants.
  • December SAT and Achievement tests.
  • Finish your essays
  • FAF forms available for financial aid. 

January - February

  • January SAT and Achievement tests.
  • DEADLINE for most college applications.

  • Keep your grades up!
  • Colleges review applications.

  • Visit colleges offering admission.  Get information to make final choice.   Stay overnight if possible.  Consider financial aid with parents. 
  • May A.P. tests
  • Colleges notify students of decisions.
  • May 1 common reply date:  Accept offer of admission, and withdraw all others.
